EXPO EXPORT

Due to the exposure that BEEF EXPO IRELAND gave to Irish breeders, Speckle Park cattle have now been introduced to another country, having only been in North America, Ireland and Australia. Matt Smith and Vicky Maynard from Exeter in Devon came to EXPO and purchased two heifers.

Glencardon Ursiline the property of Denis Carey, Carrignavar, Co.Cork and Whitewell Una the
property of Jim and Ivan Ryall Castlemartyr, Co.Cork were second and fourth respectively in their class at Kilkenny.

Ursiline and Una were part of a batch of embryos imported from Canada by the Irish Speckle Park Cattle Society in April 2007. Irish Speckle Park Cattle Society will register any UK born calves in their herd book until a British society is formed.

Over the next few months’ four further exports to United Kingdom followed. A heifer calf Knockane Unido to Richard Creith in Antrim. Two heifers Whitewell Usefull and Whitewell Undo to Sid Hollier in Dorset. A bull calf Knockane Upton to Matt Smith and Vicky Maynard in Devon. Two heifers Glencardon Unicorn, Mount Bell U-Beauty and a bull Glencardon Update to David and Julie Illsley in Berkshire.

EMBRYOS.

The Speckle Park breed was first introduced to Ireland via the importation of 108 embryos in April 2007 from Canada. With a membership base from all over Ireland another 146 embryos were imported in January 2008 and the Irish Speckle Park Cattle Society was formed. On the 14th February 2008 the first Speckle Park calf outside North America was born in a Co. Cork herd. Two further importations’ of 110 embryos in September 2008 and 105 in September 2009 followed with new blood lines. These embryos and Irish produced embryos are available from Speckle Park office.
